Mental Health Awareness & Catherine Street Inclusive Play Park

A letter from our Chair

Hello,

Good mental health has particularly suffered over the last two years; lockdown and isolation had seen many of us on our own, away from family, friends, neighbours, even folks we just nod to in the street! We all knew what it was to feel lonely and feel alone.

On April 21st, we joined our partners and friends from the Catherine Street Inclusive Play Park in Dumfries to cut the ribbon on our Memory Bench, commemorating all those who have gone before us and for all those still with us. Green spaces such as the Play Park with trees, plants, and flowers impact positively on mental wellbeing; just being there, in the moment, no pressure.

The Bench offers a safe place to every single person who comes into the park; to sit and enjoy the peace and quiet or the laughter and noise of visitors to the park; having fun and enjoying the green space of the park.

Given that this is Mental Health Awareness Week, with this year’s theme of loneliness, we will join our friends at Catherine Street Park on Friday 13th May, to smile, say hello and blether AND we will all help to tie the biggest Green Space Ribbons all-round the park to celebrate being Official Friends of the Park.

The beginning of a great friendship; we are not alone; communities, partners and friends together.

Warmest wishes to you all
