Mental Health Awareness Week at DGMHA
13th - 19th May 2024
We had an eventful week showing our support for mental health awareness and with this years theme being #momentsformovement we have certainly got moving.
Our Care Home Manager, Susan Clark, has given us a summary of their activities in Wednesday:
"In celebration of Mental Health Awareness Week on Wednesday the 15th May Claremont hosted an afternoon of music and dancing for our Residents and Service Users. Service Users from both Craigshields and Castle Douglas came along.
DGMHA staff Gail and Emma from Castle Douglas and Brenda, Lucy and Ellie from Dumfries Outreach Team all came to give their support. Head Office was represented by our CEO Lisa, Care & Support Manager Liz, Quality & Operations Manager Claire and Improvement Officer Paula. Ross our Maintenance Man also joined us too. After being picked up from doggie day care Stan our Pet Therapy Dog came along, he doesn't like to miss out on anything!
Gail belted out songs on the Karaoke for the first hour and had us all up dancing , we stopped for refreshments and then Gary Shanks took centre stage and had the whole place rocking, he sang everything from ACDC to Kenny Rogers and even Tina Turner.
A great time was had by all."
Thursday was 'Wear it Green' day and our Head Office team took this opportunity to get outdoors, move around and of course get a little photoshoot! We were joined by a lovely furry friend called Lucy and her owner who were passers by, putting big smiles on our faces.
Stranraer's walking group continues to run Tuesday and Thursdays, getting in their steps and the fresh sea air.
At DGMHA we recognise how much movement and nature can improve your mental health and encourage everybody to keep being activity if they can.
